STRESS JUDO COACHING uses the basic principle of judo against stress: that using an attacker's own power and momentum against him can lead to an efficient victory. For stress, that means to find the opportunity that the stress is masking. Once you find this opportunity, you move aggressively in the direction of that opportunity (as opposed to passively "managing" your internal stress reaction). In this way, stressful situations are transformed by you into opportunities for growth.

Where Did STRESS JUDO COACHING Develop?
My name is Rick Carter. I am a School of Coaching Mastery certified coach, a trial litigator for 17+ years, and a martial arts student for 25+ years, and before that a systems programmer for almost 10 years. I have endured and thrived under the stress of full-contact karate and boxing; countless trials, many involving trying to wrest custody from a combative parent; and advising clients through difficult divorces, probations, and contract negotiations.
STRESS JUDO COACHING was developed from 2 sources. The first was from people commenting on how easily I handled pressure, and how quickly I moved to solve a problem. So I started writing down my process, and it quickly and easily fell into the 6 belt stages you see in STRESS JUDO COACHING. The decision to turn this into a coaching program came from my daughter, who answered my question - "What should Daddy do tomorrow?" - with the answer "Come home early."
